Congratulations to the Norman County East High School Music students on their performance in Large Group Contest in Mahnomen on April 19 and to the Subsection 30 Honor Band and Honor Choir members, who performed in the Honors Concert Friday evening. After performing two Grade 2 Contest Pieces from the MSHSL list for three MSHSL Judges, the High School Choir received an "Excellent" rating and the High School Band received a "Superior" rating. The Contest results will be posted in the music hallway. Norman County East was very well represented. The preparation for and participation in the event is a unique educational opportunity for the students. They are exposed to challenging works and their individual practice and preparation allow them to have a direct effect on the outcome. Our appreciation goes out to the parents, High School staff and administration for help in providing this incredible developmental experience.

The students will receive acceptance/declination letters at the beginning of May. If they are accepted into one of the three state choirs, they will attend a camp this August for a week singing at least eight hours a day in rehearsals preparing them for the public concert at the end of the week as well as another concert at the MMEA Convention in February of 2014. Last year over 1900 students tried out with only 270 being chosen for the Men’s, Women’s, and Mixed choirs. This year’s numbers won’t be known until all of the tryouts have been held.
